The History of the Choir
The Ajka Teachers’ Female Choir dates back to 1986. The present membership consists of 42 members, mainly teachers from the district of Ajka. The main conductor of the choir is Mrs Éva Petheő, the second conductor is Mrs Piroska Takács.
The aim of our activity is to distribute choir culture, the authentic interpretation of national and international composers’ pieces. The Choir constantly participates in charity concerts and concerts in the churches of our town. So far we have had the possibility to visit Germany, Finland, Romania, Slovakia, Italy and Austria. One of our latest tours achieved roaring success in the Loire Valley.
In our repertoire you can find religious and secular pieces as well, from Gregorian songs to the literature of choirs from the 20th century.
Our latest evaluation was festival grade. In April, 2000 we achieved a great result in the international Choir Competition in Riva del Garda – we got a silver degree in the category of Women’s Choirs.
We sing to make other people happy, we sing for our own pleasure, and we would also like to preserve the valuable minutes of happiness and protect the peace of our spirit in this materialistic world.
The most important performances of the last few years:
· 1999 – Budapest / International Choir Festival silver medal
· 2000 – Riva del Garda / Choir Festival silver degree
· 2001 – Austria
· 2002 – The Czech Republic
· 2003 – Venice / Choir Festival
We have been trying to apply for the Cantonigros Festival for six years, so far without success. We hope that this year we will be able to take part in it.
